Pernilla August

Swedish actress Pernilla August has an earthy radiance and an amazing talent that translated well from stage to screen when she made a lasting impression in Ingmar Bergman’s directorial swan song, ”Fanny and Alexander” in 1982. In 1992 she won the ”Best Actress Award” at the Cannes Film Festival for her performance in ”The Best Intentions”, directed by Bille August and written by Ingmar Bergman. In 1993 she worked with Bille August again. This time in world famous "Jerusalem". 1996 Pernilla did "Private Confessions", again penned by Bergman but directed by Liv Ullmann.

In 1999 Pernilla became ”Shmi Skywalker”, mother of ”Anakin Skywalker” in ”Star Wars Episode 1 -The Phantom Menace and in 2002 “Star Wars Episode 2 -Attack of the Clones”, directed by George Lucas.

During the last years Pernilla has worked in Sweden as well as abroad. One of many happy and inspiring meetings was with the Danish director Per Fly, and with Per she did the award winning ”Manslaughter” and most lately the celebrated ”Forestillinger”. She also did the international appreciated ”Details”, directed by Kristian Petri, "I am Dina", directed by Ole Bornedal, ”Day and Night”, directed by Simon Staho, ”Daybreak” and "Mouth to Mouth" both directed by Björn Runge . Recent titles includes a leading role in “A rational solution”, premiering in competition in Critic’s week, Venice Filmfestival 2009, and Miss Kicki, awarded with the Flash Forward, Special Mention Award at Pusan International Film Festival.

Her television roles have included: ”In the presence of a clown” written and directed by Ingmar Bergman, ”The Wild Duck”, directed by Bo Widerberg and "Mary mother of Jesus", directed by Kevin Connor for Hallmark.

August's theatre credits among others include ”The Dream Play”, ”Hamlet”, for which she won the British Drama Magazine's Best Supporting Actress Award playing ”Ophelia”, ”The Dolls House”, ”The Winter's Tale” "Mary Stuart" and "Ghosts" all directed by Ingmar Bergman and performed at the National Theatre of Sweden. Other theatre credits include: Master of Strindberg, The Last Yankee and Three Sisters.
